The Insurance Association welcomes the announcement that videos glorifying reckless driving will be banned under the proposed law.
This discussion forms part of a broader parliamentary debate that includes several amendments aimed at strengthening enforcement against drug-driving and bringing it in line with drink-driving legislation.
We’re proud to see many of the proposals we submitted and championed years ago now being taken up. It’s encouraging to see both sides of Parliament unite to give police the tools they need to protect our roads.
A third and final reading in Parliament is still required before these amendments are formally approved.
Safer roads, through better enforcement and real deterrence against dangerous behaviour, are in everyone’s interest and should be the norm, not limited to festive seasons.
As the saying goes, better late than never!
